Holiday Fire Truck Parade, Kalamazoo County, MI 12.03.2008

GALESBURG, MI -- On Wednesday December 4th 2008 the 4th Annual Galesburg Fire Truck Holiday Parade
was held in the City of Galesburg Michigan. Each fire dept. in the county was invited to send an apparatus to
participate in the parade and encourage to decorate the piece so it could be judged in the best decorated
contest. 11 pieces of apparatus, old and new, were there fully decorated along with Mr. And Mrs. Claus and
even the Grinch made an appearance. The parade started at the school and was led off by the Galesburg FD.
The parade made its way thru town and eneded at the fire station were the judging took place. This years
winner was the entry from Vicksburg FD. Everyone had a good time and it was a great way to start the holiday

Wagon Arrives w/Heavy Fire Showing, Prince Georges' County, MD 12.05.2008

RIVERDALE HEIGHTS, MD -- On Friday December 5th, BOX Alarm 13 was transmitted to the 6400 Block of 59th
Avenue in Riverdale Heights for the reported house on fire. Engine Company 13 arrived reporting heavy fire
showing from a 1.5 story single family wood frame dwelling. Crews quickly went to work as communications
transmitted the Working Fire Dispatch as fire continued to shoot from the house. Companies had the fire
knocked with-in 1 hour as crews worked to open up and hit hot spots.

Working Garage Fire, Lancaster County, PA 12.06.2008

NEW HOLLAND BOROUGH, PA -- On Saturday December 6th, Around 21:25 Hours, BOX Alarm 39 was
transmitted to 140 West Main Street at People's Restaurant for the reported building on fire. First alarm units
on the ticket were advised of smoke showing from the side of the restaurant, D/C 39 arrived moments later
reporting heavy smoke showing from a garage behind the restaurant. Chief 39 took the command and was
advised by communications of a second call reporting a printing building on fire on Franklin Street.
Command advised this was one in the same with the 140 West Main Street assignment as Tower 39 arrived
deploying an 1.75" line into the building. Engine 32-2 was advised on their arrival to supply the Tower and for
their manpower to assist. Crews reported to command of a printing machine on fire inside the 20 x 30 garage
and the fire was knocked with-in 15 minutes. Command held units from Liberty and Blue Ball as Units from
Pioneer and Ronks were placed in service. No injures were reported and the PSP fire marshal was notified.

Fatal Working House Fire Claims One, Lancaster County, PA 12.06.2008

SALISBURY TOWNSHIP, PA -- On Saturday December 6th, Around 16:46 Hours, BOX Alarm 42 was transmitted
to 746 Mount Vernon Road for the reported house on fire. Units from Gap Volunteer Fire Company along with
add'l units on the first alarm assignment were advised by communications of a neighbor reporting a house
explosion. Chief 42 arrived on scene confirming a 1 story wood frame house well off with possible people
trapped. Engine 42-2 arrived deploying a 2.5" line and went defensive as the fire over took the small house
in the woods. Command requested the second alarm tanker assignment be transmitted as crews continued
to battle the blaze. One firefighter was injured and transported by EMS as crews contained the blaze that
completely over took the small single family dwelling. One male was found by Fireman during overhaul and is
under investigation by PSP fire marshal's office.

STONEWOOD, WV -- On Friday December
5h at 10:13 hours, Company 12
(Stonewood VFD), Engine 71 (Nutter Fort
VFD), and Engine 11 (Anmoore VFD) were
alerted for a Structure Fire at 99 ½ 4th
Street in Stonewood. Engine 71 (w/4-
Capt. Rohrbough) hit the street 1 minute
later with Engine 72 (w/4-Lt. Hudkins) not
far behind. STVFD Engine 122 (w/4)
arrived on scene and advised HC911 of a
double-wide mobile home well involved.
Engine 71 arrived on the scene as the
2nd due engine and began assisting Co.
12 in pulling a 1 ¾” cross lay off of E122
to begin fire attack. Engine 72 then
arrived on scene as Engine 121 hit the
hydrant. Co. 12 and 7 firefighters made
an aggressive interior attack on the fire
knocking most of it down within minutes.
Command 12 then advised Engine 12
(Anmoore VFD) to transfer to Company
12. Crews assisted in salvage and
overhaul and cleaning up. All units went
ready at 11:10.

Working Mobile Home Fire, Harrison County, WV 12.05.2008

Volunteers Take in Signal 6A w/Entrapment, Harrison County, WV 12.02.2008

NUTTER FORT, WV-- On Tuesday December 2nd at 20:35 , Company 7 and 61 (Harrison County EMS) were
alerted for a Signal 6A on Buckhannon Pike near Food Lion. Engine 71 (w/5-AC Richards) immediately
responded as well as Engine 72 (w/2-FF Hudkins) with Squad 7 (w/3-Lt. Paugh). NFPD and Deputy Chief 7
(Haddix) arrived on scene and advised HC911 of a 2 vehicle head on collision with confirmed entrapment
with both vehicles on an embankment and to alert Rescue 124 (Stonewood VFD) for extrication. Units arrived
on scene and went to work stabilizing the vehicles using wenches on Unit 76 and Squad 7 and began patient
care. R124 and U125 arrived on scene minutes later and went to work with securing the vehicle with rescue
struts and utilizing the Hurst tools, popping the drivers door and lifting the dashboard to free the driver.
Total extrication time was around 10 minutes. EMS crews then packaged 2 patients for transport to UHC and
obtained 1 sign off. Company 7 then cleared the roadway of debris and set down oil dry to absorb the fluids
from the vehicles. Units operated on scene assisting NFPD in their investigation until around 22:15 hours.

Volunteers Battle House Fire, Lancaster County, PA 12.08.2008

EPHRATA TOWNSHIP, PA -- On Monday December 8th, BOX Alarm 15 was transmitted @ 09:50 Hours to 102
Meadow Valley Road for the reported house on fire. Communications advised Chief 15 en route of multiple
calls of fire coming from the roof of a home. With these reports Chief 15 added Engine Company 16 to the
assignment as Police Department arrived giving the first official report of heavy smoke showing from all
sides of the roof. Chief 15 arrived moments later confirming PD's report with a working second floor fire,
Engine 15-1 was directed to attack the fire from the Alpha Side of the house on arrival. While the Engine
company started their work, Command requested Engine Company 12 be added to the assignment for
manpower. During the incident Medic 4 was also added by communications due to multiple calls of people
that might still be inside the home, this report was later confirmed to be false as all searches proved to be
negative. Units from Pioneer(15), Lincoln(16), Akron(12), Rothsville(210), Brunnerville(22), Reinholds(ZONE 1
AIR), Durlach Mt. Airy(14) and Ephrata Ambulance(112) worked the job as West Earl(313) and Martindale(310)

Fire Damages Home, Prince Georges' County, MD 12.08.2008

RIVERDALE, MD -- On Monday December 8th, BOX Alarm 07 was transmitted to the 4600 Block of Queensbury
Road for the reported house on fire. Units from the 4th Battalion along with the rest of the first alarm arrived
with heavy smoke showing from a 2.5 story wood frame dwelling. Crews went to work to control the fire on
the first floor that was spreading to the second. Crews worked for about one hour to control the blaze that

Fire Seen For Miles Destroys Building, Lancaster County, PA 12.08.2008

EAST LAMPETER TOWNSHIP, PA -- On Monday December 8th, BOX Alarm 48 was transmitted to 74 South Ronks
Road in East Lampeter Township at Fisher Iron for the reported building on fire around 14:19 Hours. Units on
the first alarm consisting from companies 48, 47, 41, 43, 39, 63 along with EMS from 43 were advised of heavy
fire coming from the building, Chief 48 confirmed this report and requested add'l tankers be added to the
assignment as heavy fire was consuming the large building. Smoke from this job could be seen miles away
as firefighters continued to battle the fire in freezing temp's. Through-out the incident, command requested
multiple different units as tankers from all over the area kept the water flowing. Crews worked for about 1.5
Hours to control the fire and the building was a complete loss.

One In Arrest Requires Rapid Extrication, York County, PA 12.06.2008

HELLAM TOWNSHIP, PA -- At 18:04 Hours, the 41-04 box was struck for a vehicle accident with entrapment on
Cool Creek road at Mt. Pisgah. 41 dumped the house in one minute with 17 personnel. Deputy 41 arrived on
location, 2 pick up trucks head-on collision, and confirming one person entrapped. Rescue 2 crew stabilized
the vehicle and started the extrication. The EMT doing the inside rescue advised crews of a respiratory
arrest, rescue crews quickly pulled the patient out of the vehicle. Crews began CPR on the patient until the
arrival of Ambulance 41. After care was transferred, crews cleaned up debris and waited for towing to be

Working House Fire Involving Several Auto's, PG County, MD 12.08.2008

GLENN DALE, MD -- On Monday December 8th, BOX Alarm 18 was transmitted to the area if the 10000 Block of
Locust Street in the Glendale Heights section of Prince Georges' County for the reported house on fire.
Units from Company 18 and surrounding first alarm units arrived reporting a single story wood frame
dwelling with heavy fire showing. As crews went to work, they found that several auto's around the house
were also well involved with the home. Crews stretched multiple lines in and around the home trying to
contain the spreading fire coming from the fully involved attached garage. In all, companies worked for over
one hour to contain the job that completely destroyed the homes attached garage and several automobiles.

GLEN FALLS, WV -- At 22:02 hours on
Monday December 8th, Company 13
(Summit Park VFD), Engine 71 (Nutter Fort
VFD), and Engine 121 (Stonewood VFD)
were alerted for a Structure Fire on
Lower Jack Run Road in Glen Falls. E71
(w/4-AC Richards) hit the street seconds
later followed by Tanker 7 (w/2-FF
McCray). Engine 71 was the first arriving
unit and advised HC911 of a fully
involved 2-story structure. Crews then
stretched an 1 ¾” cross lay off of 71 and
began a “surround and drown” attack.
SPVFD E131 and STVFD E121 then arrived
on scene and began to stretch a 2nd 1
¾” cross lay off of 71 while E131
stretched yet another 1 ¾” cross lay and
hooked into Tanker 7 with a 2 ½” supply
line. Command 13 then requested that
Tanker 3 (Lost Creek VFD) to be added to
the assignment and to alert HCEMS to
standby at the scene.

One Rolled Over w/Confinement, Lancaster County, PA 12.09.2008

EPHRATA TOWNSHIP, PA -- Late on Tuesday December 09th, The rescue local was transmitted to the 200
Block of Meadow Valley Road for the reported PIC w/People trapped around 23:50 hours. Communications
advised units from the Rothsville Volunteer Fire Company (210), Ephrata Rescue Squad (115) along with EMS
from Rothsville Fire and Ephrata Hospital's Medic 4 of a reported single vehicle roll over crash with the
patient stating he's not injured, but is confined inside the vehicle. Patrol car 86-6 (Warwick Twp. PD) advised
communications they were in Ephrata Township with one vehicle on it's side with one male patient still
inside. Units on the Rescue local were advised as Chief 210 arrived confirming it to be a 16 Rescue BOX
assignment. Communications re-transmitted the assignment as a 16 Rescue BOX as units from Engine
Company 210 arrived along with EMS and Rescue Squad 115. Crews went to work on the vehicle to free the
confined driver. During rescue operations, the driver was extricated/assisted through the rear of the
vehicle to awaiting EMS crews. Ambulance 210 with Medic 4 transported the priority three patient to Ephrata

Working Barn Fire, Kent County, MD 12.08.2008

VILLAGE OF MASSEY, MD -- On Monday, December 8, 2008, at 1637 hours, Fire Box 20-8 was struck for a barn
fire at 33190 Maryland Line Rd, Massey, MD. Stations alerted were Kent County MD Sta 2 (Millington), Sta 3
(Galena) and Kent EMS. Kent County DE Sta 45 (Clayton) and Sta 44 (Citizens Hose of Smyrna). Also
dispatched were units from New Castle DE Sta 27 (Volunteer Hose of Middletown), Sta 26 (Townsend), and 24
(Odessa). Chief 2 (Downey) was the first unit on location reporting a large single story horse stable heavily
involved. All animals we safely removed from the structure. Due to very limited access, Engine 2 went back
the lane to the structure and deployed 2 - 1 3/4" handlines and 1 2 1/2" "blitz" line. They were followed
closely by Tanker 2 who supplied the engine. Engine 3 deployed 2 long lays of 1 3/4" hose to access the
Alpha side of the structure while the other 3 lines were deployed on the Delta side. A total of 65 firefighters
were on the scene. Units cleared the scene after extensive overhaul and investigation by the Maryland Fire

Multiple Grabs Made From Apt. Building Fire, PG County, MD 12.10.2008

LANHAM, MD -- On Wednesday December 10th, BOX Alarm 48-25 was transmitted to 10015 Greenbelt Road for
the reported apartment on fire. Units on the first alarm assignment were advised of a large column of smoke
in the area of Greenbelt Road. Rescue Squad 18(Glenn Dale) arrived moments later reporting heavy fire
coming from the second division of a 3 story garden style apartment building with reported people trapped.
The Greenbelt Road command was established by car 151 as the fire task force was requested and
transmitted. Crews battled through heavy fire and smoke conditions while rescues were being made off of
ladders on both the Charlie & Alpha sides of the building, Engine Company 18 was noted recovering an
infant child from the second floor. EMS treated all patients along with the infant recovered from the fire
building. All units on the Fire Task Force assignment staged on Greenbelt Road by command till needed on
the scene. Engine Companies 48, 18, 35, 28, 13, 11, Rescue Squad 18, Ladder Companies 14, 19, 28 Air 45
along with EMS units from 39, 12, 30 worked the job as Engine Company 7, Tower Ladder 33 and Ambulances
7 & 55 handled the transfer assignments to various area Departments.

Tractor Trailer Into A House After PIC, Lancaster County, PA 12.11.2008

FULTON TOWNSHIP, PA -- On Thursday December 11th, The 513 Rescue Local was transmitted to the area of
Lancaster Pike at Joy Lane for the reported PIC involving a tractor trailer. Units on the assignment from
Robert Fulton Volunteer Fire Company and EMS from Wakefield Ambulance were advised by communications
of a two vehicle crash at the intersection involving a tractor trailer and a pick-up truck. Units arrived
confirming the report and found the tractor trailer resting up against a single family dwelling. Crews check
for hazards as EMS tended to patients on scene. EMS transported one priority three patient to a local
hospital for evaluation. Units remained on the scene assisting the tow company on removal of the vehicles

One Transported After Collision, Lancaster County, PA 12.13.2008

FORT WASHINGTON, MD -- On Saturday December 14th, BOX Alarm 47-08 was transmitted to 1206 Palmer Road
for the reported apartment on fire at 23:05 hours. Units on the first alarm assignment from Companies 47, 32,
42, 29, 21, 24, 25, 17 along with EMS 14, battalion Chief 5 were advised of apartment 14 on fire on dispatch.
Engine Company 47 was advised by communications after marking up of reports of people now trapped and
multiple calls of fire showing from the third floor of the building. Engine 47 arrived moments later reporting
heavy fire showing from the top floor of a three story garden style apartment building and would be passing
the command giving lay out instructions. Engine 32 arrived right behind Engine 47 picking up their line at the
driveway going to work with B/C 5 taking the Palmer Road Command. All companies went to work finding
heavy fire conditions coming from apartment 14, Engine Company 29 requested a fifth due Engine Company
be alerted to pick up their supply line on the Charlie side of the building. At the fifteen minute mark,
Command reported the primary search was completed by Tower Ladder 21 with Ladder 26 taking the RIC
assignment on arrival. Division 3 sector reported the secondary search of Apartment 11, 12, 13 were still
negative and are still working on the fire apartment. Interior crews had the bulk of the fire knocked in the
apartment in about 15 minutes. During operations, crews found a priority 4 victim in the fire apartment and
started over haul. Companies worked for over one hour before some were returned ready.

Fatal Apartment Fire, Prince George's County, MD 12.13.2008

WEST EARL TOWNSHIP, PA -- On Sunday December 14th, The 313 rescue local was transmitted to the area of
Route 222 South @ Pool Road for the reported PIC involving fire with people trapped at 19:58 Hours. Units
from the West Earl Volunteer Fire Company (313), Ephrata Rescue Squad (115) along with EMS from
Rothsville Volunteer Fire Company (210) and Ephrata Hospital's medic 4 were advised by Communications of
a single vehicle crash with one into a bridge on fire. Patrol car 88-6 (West Earl Twp. PD) arrived giving units
the first official report of a pick-up truck into the bridge with heavy entrapment and the vehicle smoking.
Units from Engine Company 313 arrived deploying & charging an 1.75" handline to knock down any fire
hazard from the smoking vehicle as they had one confirmed heavily entrapped. Command 313 requested the
second due Rescue Squad be added to the Extrication assignment, Ladder 24(Eden Volunteer Fire/Rescue
Company) was added to the assignment for the assist. Rescue Squad 115 arrived with reports from command
of an extensive entrapment of the patient. Crews went to work to free the driver after the vehicle was
completely free of fire hazards. Crews worked for 1 hour 12 minutes to free the driver of the truck. During
the incident, Medevac 8 flew direct and landed on Route 222 to fly the patient to the local trauma center.

PIC Involving Fire w/Extensive Entrapment, Lancaster County, PA 12.14.2008

HYATTSVILLE, MD -- On Tuesday December 16th, BOX Alarm 01-02 was transmitted to 3205 Toledo Place for
the reported apartment on fire in Company 1's first due. Departments on the first alarm ticket from Engine
Companies 1, 7, 13, 34, Ladder 1, 55 & B/C 4 were advised by communications of a reported working fire in an
third floor apartment. Units on the first alarm arrived reporting smoke showing from the top floor of a three
story garden style apartment building and transmitted the working fire dispatch adding P/E 44, M12, EMS 810
& Safety 800 to the alarm. As crews went to work, they were met head on with a smoke condition through-out
the third floor apartment. Battalion Chief 4 took the Hyattsville command with crews still working and
transmitted the second alarm assignment which added Engine Companies 12, 2(MONTGOMERY COUNTY), 11,
9 Ladder 14, 12 Rescue Squad 22, Water Supply Company 25, Air 16(MONTGOMERY) Along with Battalion
Chief 2 and Safety 2. Truck companies laddered the building and roof finding fire running the roof line while
opening up. Around the fifteen minute mark operations reported to command that the bulk of the fire was
knocked down and all searches proved negative. Second alarm units were pulled from staging and put to
work as extensive over haul was needed through-out the fire floor. Company worked for about 1 hour as
companies started to rack up and go ready.

Two Alarm Apartment Fire, Prince George's County, MD 12.16.2008

CITY OF McKEESPORT, PA -- at approx. 00:30hrs on Dec. 16th, McKeesport IAFF Local 10 Units were alerted
for a report of a possible building at 401 Eden Park Blvd in the City Of McKeesport. Company
190(McKeesport FD) units arrived on scene to find heavy fire showing & fire through the roof immediately
asking for Station 190 all call. Within minutes of the all call Eden Park Command Requested a full 2nd alarm to
be struck bringing a Truck from Company 299(White Oak VFD #1) along with a second page for company 190
all call & also Squirt 161(Glassport VFD) was requested for a stand by at station 190. Again within approx only
10 minutes Command Requested the 3rd alarm assignment bringing a Rescue/Air Unit from station 299 &
Squirt 161 to the scene & Telesquirt 300(Rainbow VFD-White Oak VFD #2) for a fire stand by in place of Squirt
161 to station 190, also around the time of the 2nd & 3rd alarms being struck out command reported a
collapse of side "A" of the structure, shortly there after command also reported a collapse of side "D". An
additional engine was requested to the scene from company 237(Port View VFD) for an additional water
supply due to a major water break in the city depriving water pressure for the units on scene. At approx
03:15 hours Eden Park Command Reported the fire under control to Allegheny County Communications. Due
to extensive overhaul & burning debris units were remained on scene for an additional few hours.

Three Alarm Auto Parts Store, Allegheny County, PA 12.16.2008

HONEY BROOK TOWNSHIP, PA -- At 11:16pm The Twin Valley Fire Department along with the The Honey Brook
Fire Company were dispatched to a dwelling Fire on Hillview Drive. Deputy 69(Romig) arrived on scene first
and advised that he had a working fire. The fire was in the attached garage and was already starting to work
its way into the house, Deputy 69 established "Hillview Command". Engine 69-2 arrived and firefighters
deployed the 1-3/4" front bumper CAFS line and started going to work on the garage and the first floor.
Firefighters from Engine 69-2(Grazioli and Hornberger) encounter heavy fire, heat and smoke on these
floors. Ladder 69 arrived and backed in the driveway and took the front yard of the house. Lieutenant 33 (D.
Brooks) along with Assistant 69 (J. Cook) made it to the roof and vented multiple holes because the fire was
running the attic space. Deputy 33 (Messner) threw ground ladders and vented the second floor windows
Engine 69-5 arrived and picked up the 5" Line at the end of the driveway and supplied Engine 69-2 with
water. Engine 33-5 arrived and assisted 69-5 with the operation. Crews from 33-5, Assistant 33 (Jackson) and
FF Ott extended the leader line off 69-2 around the front of the house and dropped the gated "wye" at the
door and stretched the 100' 1 3/4" CAFS line to the second floor to get a knock on the fire. As Crews made it
up the Stairs they encountered heavy Fire, heat and smoke on the Second Floor and Attic Areas. The Fire
was brought under control within a Half Hour and Firefighters made a great stop, keeping the fire to the one
end of the Home, a great job done by all. The bulk of the fire damage was limited to the garage, kitchen, and
attic area's, with no water damage due to the CAFS. Special Thanks To Churchtown and BlueBall Fire

Fire Showing On Arrival, Chester County, PA 12.13.2008

EAST NANTMEAL TOWNSHIP, PA -- At 1:02pm The Twin Valley Fire Department along with Honey Brook EMS(33)
and Brandywine Medics(93) were disparched to Route 401 and Route 345 for an Auto Accident reported with
Entrapment. Battalion Chief(Miller) was first to arrive and found one vehicle on its side with a subject still in
the vehicle. Rescue and Engine 69-5 arrived and went to work on Extracating the patient. Crews stabilized
the vehicle and removed the windshield and part of the "A" post to gain access to the patient.
**This was the fourth accident the volunteers ran that morning**

MANHEIM TOWNSHIP, PA -- On Wednesday December 17th, BOX Alarm 211 was transmitted to the Inside track

211, 27, 3(CITY), 23 Ladder 24, Tower Ladder 67 & 66 along with EMS 213 arrived with a light fixture on the
front of the building on fire. Tower Ladder 67 and Ladder 24 laddered the roof as Engine 211-3 deployed their
bumper line as a precaution. All units went ready cleared the fire grounds with-in 45 minutes after racking up

ASTON TOWNSHIP, PA -- Just before lunch time the Engine Company 63 (Green Ridge Volunteers) was
dispatched to the 200 block of Gerald Drive for the auto fire. PD arrived on scene and reported the vehicle
fully involved. Engine 63 arrived and handled the fire with the 1 3/4 bumper line. Tac 72 assisted with

Volunteers Handle One Well Off, Delaware County, PA 12.18.2008

WARWICK TOWNSHIP, PA -- On Thursday December 18th, Emergency crews from all over Lancaster County,
PA met in hopes of making a little girls final wish come true. In October of this year, 4-year-old Hannah
Garman was diagnosed with glioblastoma multiforme, an aggressive brain tumor, in her cerebellum. One of
Hannah's final wishes for Christmas was to get and collect Christmas cards. Over 80 Emergency units from all
over Lancaster County, PA including Fire, EMS and Police collected and delivered on Hannah's final wish.
Crews met at the Heart Of Lancaster Regional Medical Center and convoyed to met Hannah at Lititz Area
Mennonite School with thousands of cards and gifts in hand. Crews packed the gym of the school as Hannah
and her family members watch as they delivered the cards she wished for. If your interested in sending a

Emergency Crews Deliver On Little Girl's Wish, Lancaster County, PA 12.18.2008

PALMER PARK, MD -- At 1545 hours Kentland Volunteers and surrounding companies were alerted for a
reported house on fire at 8010 Sheriff Rd. Company 33 responded with Engine 331, Engine 332, Rescue
Squad 33 and Chief 33 with 15 volunteers. As units made their way into the block bystanders where noted on
the sidewalk pointing frantically at 8014 Sheriff Rd. Engine 331 laid out as Engine 332 secured the water
supply, Rescue Squad 33 pulled out of the way as the first due special service. As the door to the home was
forced a large volume of smoke exited the doorway and crews went to work on this now confirmed fire.
Engine 331 advanced a 1 ½ bumper line to the first floor as Engine 332’s crew checked the second. Squad 33’
s crew was hard at work conducting primary searches, throwing ladders, venting horizontally and shutting
off utilities. Primary searches proved negative after 2 dogs were successfully removed to the front yard.
Kentland Volunteers found a kitchen off in the back portion of the home and made quick work of it. Command
held company 33 inside the fire home while other units checked the exposures for extension. None found
the assignment was scaled back to the members of Company 33.

Working House Fire w/Two Dogs Rescued, PG County, MD12.18.2008

BLOOMINGTON, MD -- On 12/16/2008 in
the afternoon hours, Allegany County
dispatched an MVC on Route 135 west of
Bloomington, MD on Backbone Mountain.
Engine Company 36(Bloomington VFD),
Squad 22 (Potomac Fire Company of
Westernport, MD), and EMS 50 (Tri-Towns
EMS) were dispatched on the call. While
en route to the scene dispatched
advised Squad 22 that Maryland State
Police were on the scene confirming that
one subject was trapped in the vehicle.
Squad 22 arrived on the scene to find a
single vehicle accident, a SUV on it's side
in a ditch. The driver was injured and still
trapped inside the vehicle. The squad
crew removed both passenger side
doors, the "B" Post, Cut the "A" Post,
used a Saws All to cut the windshield and
the roof to flap the roof back.

The victim was removed, packaged, and transported to a local trauma center by the ambulance. The video
has a dash camera mounted in the front of Squad 22, a mounted camera in the walk in box to observe the
crew getting ready, and the new FCII Helmet Camera view of the extrication.

Tanker 7 supplied 4 loads of water while Tanker 3 supplied 3 loads and both tankers supplied all engines on
scene. Even with poor water supply due to a very remote area crews were able to contain the fire within 2 ½
hours and crews returned in service at around 01:00 hours and began cleaning and repacking Engine 71 and
Tanker 7. During the incident. Engine 111 (Spelter VFD) transferred to Company 13.

EAST DRUMORE TOWNSHIP, PA -- Early on Sunday December 21st, BOX Alarm 513 was transmitted to the area
of Cardinal Drive and Lancaster Pike in East Drumore Township for the reported barn on fire. Units on the
first alarm BOX assignment from Quarryville(57), Robert Fulton(513), Rawlingsville(58) along with EMS from
Wakefield Ambulance(513) were advised of a reported working barn fire in the area with multiple calls of it
being in the area of 7 Cardinal Drive. Units arrived on scene reporting heavy fire showing from the one story
metal building and quickly transmitted the second alarm on arrival. With the corrected address,
Communications updated the assignment to a 57 BOX Alarm and transmitted the second alarm adding add'l
units from the surrounding area. During the incident, all units used their heaviest water lines as the fire over
took the building. Multiple assignment upgrades were requested as manpower was needed to take control
of the job. Over 60 firefighters from three counties helped fight the fire that took over three hours to

LANCASTER COUNTY, PA -- On December 23rd-24th, Rescue Locals started being transmitted for crashes all
over the county. Many of the crashes occurring around the North side of the county on or around Route 222
in West Earl Township. Crews from the area kept busy with everything from fender bender to roll overs with
people trapped. During icy conditions, its better for emergency responder to take a few extra seconds then
to become an emergency them selfs.

CHILLUM, MD -- On Wednesday December 24th, BOX Alarm 44 was transmitted to 6612 23rd Avenue in the
Chillum-Adelphi area for the reported apartment on fire. Units on the first alarm assignment from both PG
and Montgomery Counties arrived shortly after dispatch to find fire showing from the single story apartment,
crews went to work quickly as add'l units took their assignments. Companies had the fire knocked down
with-in 10 minutes and held all units as companies helped investigations complete their work. After word,
The wagon crew from Engine Company 44 went to a local Giant foods store and got food/gift cards for the
displaced family of 5 adults and 3 children.

Working House Fire Brings Out The Holiday Spirit, PG County, MD 12.24.2008

LANDOVER, MD -- Wednesday, December 24, 2008 - What started as a slow Christmas Eve quickly evolved
into a busy few hours. At 2003 hours the Truck was alerted on Box 30-11 to 5128 Flintridge Drive for the
house fire. Engine company 30 went on the scene reporting a "working fire" with no additional. Truck 9
arrived second to find a 1.5 story duplex, heavy fire throughout the basement with extension up the exterior
Bravo wall and into the sofit area and cockloft. The truck crew handled utilities, reported the primary in the
basement division was negative and opened up for the engine companies. Truck 9 cleared the scene at 2337
hours and at 0017 hours, shortly after backing into quarters they were alerted to Box 28-39 for a building fire
at 3636 Pennsy Drive. Units arrived to find a fire in the loading dock area involving door seals and made
quick work of this fire. The Truck, clearing Pennsy Drive at 0032 hours was alerted at 0034 hours to 5804
Annapolis Road for an odor of gas in a 5th floor apartment. Upon investigation they found defective fittings
on the gas line to the stove and secured the gas. Meanwhile, our dedicated EMS staff were busy running
multiple calls around the area of their own.

Heavy Fire Showing On X-Mas Eve, PG County, MD 12.24.2008

HOWLAND TOWNSHIP, OH -- At 1525 the Trumbull County 9-1-1 center received a call from a passing motorist,
reporting a house on fire at 1427 Howland Wilson Rd NE – Howland Twp, Ohio. Howland Twp FD Station
30/31/32 and Bazetta Twp FD Station 11/13 responded on the first alarm, also special requesting an engine
company from Vienna Twp. FD Station 46, and air trailer from the 910th Tactical Airlift Wings CFR (Youngstown
Airbase). At 1528 Howland PD arrived on scene confirming a working fire, with unknown occupants inside.
Units operated on scene for 4 hours, fire was investigated by the Southeastern Trumbull County Arson Task
Force and found to be not suspicious in nature. American Red Cross is assisting the family of 4.

VILLAGE OF SCOTTSVILLE, NY -- On Saturday night, December 27, the Scottsville Fire Department was
dispatched to an apartment building fire on Main Street in the village. Firefighters arrived on location and
found the second floor rear portion of the large 2 1/2 story building well involved. Scottsville firefighters
were assisted at the scene with mutual aid from Mumford, Rush, Caledonia and Chili fire departments.

Working Apartment Building, Monroe County, NY 12.27.2008

WHEELING, WV -- On 12.31.2008, While firefighters were fighting a fire in North Wheeling, crews were sent to
South Wheeling for a house on fire. Units found a fully involved structure upon arrival. The house was
vacant but it had an occupied house as an exposure on the number 4 (delta) side. Crews began an exterior
attack and protected the exposure. Despite their best efforts, the fire eventually extended into the other
house. The residents got out and crews made an interior attack until the incident commanders decided to
pull out and "surround and drown" the house. The rest of the fire was knocked down by exterior lines and 2
tower ladders. Crews then checked for hot spots. There were no injuries.

WHEELING, WV -- On 12.31.2008, Firefighters were sent to 210 Main St. in North Wheeling and found smoke
showing on arrival. Crews made an aggressive interior attack and knocked the fire down quickly. The

BOROUGH OF MONROEVILLE, PA -- at aprox. 23:25 hours on Tuesday December 30, 2008 Monroeville
Communications Dispatched Monroeville Fire Departments 1(192),Command 32(Co. 3)(193),5(195),& 6(196) for
a reported building fire in the rear of The Jonnette Building on PA Route 22. with-in minutes units arrived on
scene to find heavy smoke showing from a single story strip mall holding approx. 5 businesses, at this time
engine co. 6 dropped a line & proceeded into the scene. with-in approx 5 mins of fire units being on scene
command asked for the 2nd alarm to be struck bringing the remaining Monroeville Companies-3(193)(Station
Response) 4(194), also at this time there was an emergency transition from rescue 6 reporting that a
firefighter has been struck by a vehicle & is down, the firefighter was transported to the hospital & no
further condition on the firefighter has been reported. After almost 10 minutes of the original alarm Truck 5
went to be gin ventilation of the roof & discovered that the fire has begun to self-vent through the roof of
the building. Around 1/2 hour in to the incident the evac tones were sounded due to wires arching in the
rear D,C corner of the building & again shortly there after due to 2 stores being fully evolved. Units
continued exterior ops only for about 3 hours in which command felt that the bulk of the fire had been
contained & was safe enough for fire units to return to interior ops. Exterior ops comensed of 2 master
streams off of Tower Ladder 194, Single Master Stream off of Truck 195, & multiple attack lines from the
exterior of the structure. 1st Arriving units stayed on the scene well into the early morning rush hour
continuing overhaul & ensuring that all fire has been contained. The Fire gutted at least 3 of 5 stores in the
strip. The Allegheny County Fire Marshals Office is currently investigating the cause of this blaze.
