WALLACE, WV -- At 1:04 a.m. on Thursday May 29th, Company 14 (Wallace VFD), Engine 41 (Lumberport VFD),
Engine 101 (Shinnston VFD), and Wetzel Engine 11 (Folsom VFD) were alerted for a Structure Fire with
Entrapment on Barnes Run Road in Wallace. WVFD Engine 142 (w/5) hit the street at 1:07 and arrived on
scene two minutes later to find a one story dwelling with heavy fire showing and advised HC911 of confirmed
entrapment. Additional units arrived on scene shortly after. Crews attempted to make entry into the home
but were unsuccessful as the roof began to collapse. Crews then began an aggressive exterior attack on the
fire. Command 14 then requested Engine 111 (Spelter VFD) to respond to scene and Marion Engine 141
(Worthington VFD) to transfer to Co. 14. There was no response from E111, so Engine 71 (Nutter Fort VFD)
was alerted to transfer. After knocking most of the fire down, crews made entry and discovered the body of
an elderly gentleman. Units checked for hot spots and returned in service at 05:04. An excellent job
performed by all companies on scene. Assistance was also received from Harrison County EMS, the Harrison
County Sheriff's Department and the WV State Fire Marshal's Office. The cause of the fire is under
investigation. COURTESY OF FF FRANK FERRARI
