KENTLAND, MD -- Recently, the Kentland Volunteer Fire Department was the proud recipient of a 2008
Seagrave (J-Cab) "Commander II" pumper. The pumper was sold to the Kentland Volunteer Fire
Department, Incorporated by FESCO Emergency Sales in Elkridge, Maryland. This piece of apparatus is the
last fixed chassis to be built by the Seagrave Manufacturing Company. In keeping with the Kentland 33
tradition of casting a meaningful name on each piece of apparatus, "OLD SCHOOL" was deemed most
appropriate for this pumper. This was not only chosen because it is quite possibly the last fixed chassis
ever made in the USA, but also due to the fact that this pumper is designed like most older pumpers were.
For example its simple, easy to work off of, possesses features of Kentland VFD pumpers in the 1960’s and
has hose and water to put out fires. This seems to be a thing of the past when speaking of modern fire
apparatus. The new pumper will replace a 1994 Pierce Arrow pumper (formally Engine 331) which has
served the department well. In total the Pierce ran approx. 84,000 responses and nearly 1,680 working fires
in its 14 years of service. The new pumper is scheduled to be placed into service July of 2008. Information
on this piece of apparatus is listed below:

BLADENSBURG, MD -- Engine 94 was designed and built to replicate a “City Engine” profile, incorporating
the best possible safety features, but still maintaining the simplicity of an easy to work from engine. This
includes a 7 man enclosed cab, a short wheelbase with excellent turning radius for ease of
maneuverability, city geared acceleration, 60” from ground cross lays and hose bed. It is powered by a
Series 60 Detroit Diesel 515 Hp engine, has a Jacobs 2 stage engine brake, rapid de-acceleration, anti
rollover protection, 500 gallons of water, 1250 GPM pump, 3, 12 volt HID scene lights and a full complement
of emergency lighting, as well as the reflective safety chevron on the rear.
It is with Honor that this new engine be dedicated to a member who has 45 years of active service with the
department. Having joined in 1963 as a volunteer, then accepting a position in the newly formed PGFD in
about 1967 maintained his dedication to the fire service. Upon retiring from the career department this
individual never missed a beat and today continues to remain very active in the department. He serves our
department with honor, instilling pride and professionalism in all the work that he does. Instrumental in
keeping our fleet of apparatus in service and in tip top shape as he has for years, he consistently meets the
challenges of teaching our younger staff, not only the mechanics of care and maintenance on apparatus but
the finer arts of firefighting in general. Now it is with great honors that the officers and members of the
Bladensburg Volunteer Fire Department and Rescue Squad, Inc. dedicate Engine 94 to MR. JOHN “JB”
BRANOCK for all of your years of dedicated service and unselfish contributions to not only the department
but to the Community we serve. We look forward to many more years to come.

COMMAND 57 BOROUGH OF QUARRYVILLE, LANCASTER COUNTY, PA 2010 FORD EXPLORER COMMAND VEHICLE
|
BOROUGH OF QUARRYVILLE, PA -- In the early months of the year 2000, QFD members took ownership of
the very first 5-7 Command Vehicle. This 1992 Ford Crown Victoria was a previous Quarryville Borough
Police car, and was donated to us by the borough. After painting, lettering and radio installation, it was
placed in service by Fire Chief Tim Cox. This vehicle served the community well, taking in many fire calls
and countless trips to fire school.
In the summer of 2009, the Company voted to purchase a new command vehicle to replace the aging Crown
Vic. The membership decided on a 2010 Ford Explorer. This vehicle was purchased through the PA State
Vehicle contract, saving us thousands of dollars. The vehicle was acquired through New Holland Ford of
New Holland PA.
Once we received the vehicle, it was lettered by J. Fred Witmer Sign and Lettering of New Providence, who
has done many of our rigs, including the Crown Vic. From there, it went to TRM Communications to have
the LED warning lights, siren and radios installed. Once these items were completed, QFD members
mounted several items inside the vehicle, including a slide out box in the back, SCBA, handlight etc. After a
quick trip back to New Holland and over to Triangle to have the radios hooked up, it was put in service by
Fire Chief Tim Cox and Captain Mike Ross on Friday, November 13th.
This vehicle will be used by the Chiefs and Duty Officers to respond to emergency and non-emergency calls
throughout our district. This takes the wear and tear off of the members personal vehicles, and allows us
to keep all of our pre-planning and important information in one vehicle. During a busy week, it is not
uncommon for a duty officer to drive over 100 miles to calls. We will also use this vehicle to attend
meetings and trainings and many other events that our company participates in.
The final cost of this vehicle is $28,000.00, and is being paid for utilizing money from the QFD Fireman's
Relief Association. We know that this vehicle will be an asset to the company and the community for many
years to come. COURTESY OF QUARRYVILLE VOLUNTEER FIRE DEPARTMENT & PUMPFIRE CAPT. TOM AMICO
